This session will include three components:
- To lead or not to leadWhen you speak, does your staff listen? Do you demand things of them, or challenge them? And how do they respond? You'll take a look at your leadership style and why it works or doesn't work.
- Capitalizing on changeChange is inevitable. Don't get left in your competitors' dust. Learn ways to turn change into a stimulus for growth.
- Innovating and strategizingDo you have a vision? Find out how to develop and execute action plans for strategic initiatives and how to manage resistance so you can turn your ideas into reality.

Time management is perhaps the most critical management skill of all. What do you do, when do you do it and how long do you spend? Next, we'll talk about stress: You can fold under it or rise above it. Setting realistic goals, prioritizing tasks and tracking milestones can improve performance and morale.

Strategic Land Use Planning

This class identifies the issues and the planning steps that will allow you to make the most efficient and productive use of your cemetery or funeral home's land resources. We'll address the key questions of future land development:
- What new burial inventory and support facilities should be developed?
- Where and how should these facilities be arranged on the land?
- How can the sales value be increased through good land planning and design?
- What infrastructure will be required to support these facilities?
- How can construction and maintenance costs be minimized?
- In what sequence should these changes be implemented?
- How can public agency approval costs and time expenditures be minimized?
You'll learn ways to create a flexible, long-range plan for facility growth in order to be responsive to changing market opportunities, reduce the costs of new facility development and maintenance, and optimize the land's potential.

Cemetery Rules and Regulations

This course will focus on both procedural and substantive issues regarding cemetery rules and regulations as they relate to the various aspects of cemetery operations, including administration, sales and maintenance. Come prepared to share your experiences, including how your company distributes its regulations and how you address consumer requests that conflict with those regulations.

Trust Fund Investing for the Long Term

This course will address a broad range of investments that impact the management of both preneed and cemetery care funds. It will also address variances in state laws in terms of how these differences can impact an investment program. The course will highlight the need to reconcile the restrictions imposed by state statutes with accepted investment practices in order to provide for the long-term health of a care fund.

Avoiding Cremation Liability

There are two kinds of crematories: those that have been sued and those that will be sued. We'll review areas of concern when dealing with the cremation customer and provide guidelines for avoiding liability. What are some best practices to incorporate into your standard operating procedure? Where are the areas of greatest risk operating a crematory? How can you minimize your exposure?
