Pilgrim's Passion

Dear Prospective Student,

Each summer, people from all over the United States and the world make a passionate pilgrimage to Memphis, Tennessee. No, I'm not talking about the visitors to Elvis' grave in Graceland. I'm talking about the pilgrimage to share knowledge and commitment to the cemetery and funeral service profession-the annual pilgrimage to ICFA University.

At ICFAU, we offer a comprehensive learning experience where you can choose from among five colleges and learn from some of the most successful professionals in our field. We encourage an interactive classroom experience. Your thoughts, ideas and enthusiasm are what make this program so successful! And not only will you discover specific techniques to help you succeed, but you'll learn how to develop and apply those techniques to fit your own personal management style. Each year, ICFAU students say they leave the program with a greater knowledge of their profession and the confidence to put into practice the techniques they have learned.

I encourage you to take time between classes to network with other professionals in the cemetery and funeral service profession. Although the length of the program is only five days, the bonds you develop with the other students will last a lifetime. The opportunity to advance their careers is what initially attracts people to ICFA University, but it is the friendships formed that keep them coming back.

I invite you to make this pilgrimage with us and explore for yourself the advantages of becoming an ICFA University student. -- Michael Burke

The ICFA University Experience

This July 15-20, cemetery and funeral service practitioners from throughout North America and the world will gather at the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee, to strengthen their skills and build their careers through a one-of-a-kind program designed by the most successful and innovative minds in the profession. Known as ICFA University, this 4.5-day program offers a unique educational experience that blends intensive, practical classroom training with continual networking and idea-sharing.

Quality Education

With limited class sizes and on-campus housing and dining, ICFAU offers an intimate learning environment and leads to professional relationships that will benefit you and the families you serve for years to come.

ICFAU's five colleges cover every area of management, and classes are continually updated to incorporate the latest innovations and techniques. Courses combine a mixture of proven business theory and practical operational instruction, and the professors encourage ongoing individual participation and interaction.

Experienced Staff

ICFA University classes are led by top industry professionals as well as business and economics faculty at the University of Memphis.

You'll receive practical, proven instruction from colleagues selected not only for their in-depth understanding of the course material but also for their firsthand experience and knowledge of the everyday challenges you face in your job. For a complete listing of ICFAU faculty, click here.

Recreation and Networking

Perhaps equally as important as the academic training at ICFA University are the opportunities to share ideas with colleagues from every area of the cemetery and funeral service profession.

Students from all five colleges come together several times each day for breaks and to share meals in the Fogelman Executive Dining Hall.

After a full day of classes, you can relax with fellow students in the Fogelman lounge or take a short taxi ride to enjoy the sights and sounds of Memphis' famous Beale Street. And the Annual ICFAU Sports Tournament on Sunday night-featuring softball, basketball or volleyball, depending on the weather-generates a good-natured rivalry among students from each of the colleges.

Career Advancement

In addition to the valuable, practical career-building skills you'll learn at ICFA University, funeral directors can earn up to 24.5 CE credits, pending individual state approval. ICFA members applying for the Certified Cemetery Executive, Certified Funeral Executive or Certified Cemetery Funeral Executive designation through the association's certification program will earn a total of 80 points toward certification upon completion of each college.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

ICFAU is held at the University of Memphis Fogelman Executive Center, an academic facility expressly designed for executive and professional training. All classroom training and dining takes place at the Fogelman.

ICFAU offers on-campus housing at two sites: dormitory-style housing on the upper floor of the Fogelman and executive suites at the Holiday Inn University, located across the street from the Fogelman. Additional overflow housing will be available at the Doubletree Hotel Memphis, located a short drive from campus.
