Welcome from the Chancellor

Getting Bigger and Better

Dear Prospective Student,

Since its founding more than 20 years ago, the ICFA University has developed a solid reputation as a one-of-a-kind educational experience. As news of its value has spread, we have begun receiving inquiries from a growing number of practitioners from all areas of the industry who want to receive advanced education and training.

To meet these needs, this year we are introducing two new colleges: the College of Embalming & Restorative Arts and the ICFA/CANA College of Cremation Services. These programs are a natural extension of the ICFA University and its educational mission.

With these new programs, we have brought on board some of the top funeral service and cremation practitioners in the business. I would like to thank Deans Todd Van Beck and Ernie Heffner for their efforts to get these colleges off the ground, and I extend a special "thank you" to each of the professors within these colleges for bringing their expertise to the University. They round out an already very talented and knowledgeable ICFAU faculty.

We are particularly pleased to welcome three of the nation's most respected embalmers to the university -- Robert Mayer (Embalming: History, Theory and Practice), Melissa Johnson and Robert Inman. The effort and enthusiasm these individuals have extended in developing their courses bode well for a highly productive new college.

Ernie Heffner's work to set up a cooperative effort with the Cremation Association of North America and his outstanding lineup of presenters for the new Cremation Services College also holds great promise and fills a rapidly growing need within the industry today.

These new schools will surely add an element of excitement for all ICFAU faculty and students. I am looking forward to a week filled with new ideas, new experiences and new friends. Please send in your registration today, and discover why the ICFA University continues to get bigger and better!

-- Robert A. Gordon Sr., CCFE

The ICFA University Experience

Each summer, cemetery and funeral service practitioners from throughout North America and the world gather at the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee, to strengthen their skills and build their careers through a one-of-a-kind program designed by the most successful and innovative minds in the industry. Known as ICFA University, this 4.5-day program offers a unique educational experience that blends intensive, practical classroom training with continual networking and idea-sharing.

Quality Education

With limited class sizes and on-campus housing and dining, ICFAU offers an intimate learning environment and leads to professional relationships that will benefit you and the families you serve for years to come.

ICFAU's six colleges cover every area of management, and classes are continually updated to incorporate the latest industry innovations and techniques. Courses combine a mixture of proven business theory and practical operational instruction, and the professors encourage ongoing individual participation and interaction.

Students are enrolled in one school per year, spending 4.5 days of intensive learning in that discipline. Students are welcome to attend ICFAU for just one, two or three years, though many choose to complete four (or more) and become a proud ICFAU Graduate!

This year, ICFAU is pleased to introduce two new colleges: the College of Embalming & Restorative Arts, taught by several of the nation's leading embalmers, and the ICFA/CANA College of Cremation Services, which combines the renowned two-day Winninger Resource Group program with a newly developed slate of courses on cremation sales, marketing, service and operations.

Recreation and Networking

Perhaps equally as important as the academic training at ICFA University are the opportunities to share ideas with colleagues from every area of the industry.

Students from all six colleges come together several times each day for breaks and to share meals in the Fogelman Executive Dining Hall.

After a full day of classes, you can relax with fellow students in the Fogelman lounge or take a short taxi ride to enjoy the sights and sounds of Memphis' famous Beale Street. And the ICFAU Basketball/Volleyball games on Sunday night always foster team spirit and give students something to cheer about.

Career Advancement

In addition to the valuable, practical career-building skills you'll learn at ICFA University, funeral directors can earn up to 24.5 CE credits, pending individual state approval. ICFA members applying for the Certified Cemetery Executive, Certified Funeral Executive or Certified Cemetery Funeral Executive designation through the association's certification program will earn a total of 80 points toward certification upon completion of each college.

Experienced Staff

ICFA University classes are led by top industry professionals as well as business and economics faculty at the University of Memphis.

You'll receive practical, proven instruction from colleagues selected not only for their in-depth understanding of the course material but also for their firsthand experience and knowledge of the everyday challenges you face in your job. For a complete listing of ICFAU faculty, click here.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

ICFAU is held at the University of Memphis Fogelman Executive Center, an academic facility expressly designed for executive and professional training sessions. All classroom training and dining takes place at the Fogelman. In addition, the College of Embalming & Restorative Arts will include laboratory training at Smith Hall, about a five-minute walk from the Fogelman.

ICFAU offers on-campus housing at two sites: dormitory-style housing in the upper floors of the Fogelman and executive suites at the Holiday Inn University, located across the street from the Fogelman. Additional overflow housing will be available at the Ridgeway Inn, located a short drive from campus. The Fogelman Executive Center's dorm houses 51 private sleeping rooms, each with private bath, and has a common lounge area and kitchen.

The Holiday Inn University suites include a choice of king bed or two double beds, a sleeper sofa and numerous luxury amenities. The hotel has a lounge, snack bar, gift shop and exercise room.

On-campus housing is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to register early. For additional information on housing assignments and costs, please see the information on Accommodations and the ICFAU Registration Form.
