NetWatch: Grief Goes Online
by Susan Loving, ICFM managing editor
Many grief and bereavement resources are available online. Some aimed at particular groups are listed here:
For parents who have lost a child to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, the SIDS Network: www.sids-network.org. This site offers information about research into the causes and prevention of SIDS as well as support for people who have experienced a loss to SIDS.
For people who have lost someone in an airplane crash, AirCraft Casualty Emotional Support Services: www.aircrashsupport.com. "We are here to help fill the void that occurs when the emergency and disaster relief organizations disband, the initial shock subsides and the natural grieving process intensifies."
For those who have lost a loved one who was serving in the armed forces, The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors Inc.: www.taps.org.
For grieving fathers, a site that includes links to Web pages set up by fathers to honor their lost sons: members.tripod.com/~LifeGard/index-4.html. "Parental grief is different. The process is different and so is the aftermath." This page is a link from a site by the same author about suicide, including resources for those who have lost a loved one to suicide, members.tripod.com/~LifeGard/#TOP.
For twins (and others from multiple births) who have lost a twin through death, estrangement or in-utero loss, Twinless Twins Support Group International: serv1-r.fwi.com/twinless. "Twinless twins can understand each other's feelings like nobody else can."
For parents who have lost a child, The Compassionate Friends: www.compassionatefriends.org. "As seasoned grievers reach out to the newly bereaved, energy that has been directed inward begins to flow outward and both are helped to heal." (The group's worldwide candle lighting in memory of children who have died is Sunday, December 10, at 7 p.m.)
For people who have lost a spouse or life partner, WidowNet: www.fortnet.org/WidowNet. "Topics covered include grief, bereavement, recovery and other information helpful to people of all ages, religious backgrounds and sexual orientations."
